The first official day of Summer is June 21st even if summertime fun starts before that date. What things stir your memory of Summer? For me, the first is usually the end or near the end of the school year with final exams, commencements, graduations and celebratory parties. Summertime also evokes, warmer weather, breezy days and nights, outdoor lawn games, dips in the swimming pool or in the local lake or ocean if you’re that lucky. Your senses are stimulated by smell, sounds and the feel of sand in your toes. Outdoor grilling is the primary way of cooking to keep kitchens and homes a bit cooler, with the tantalizing after effects of some smokey treats off that grill. Then to find the perfect area to settle down and enjoy your meal, snack, or whatever else you choose to share with a friend, family member, lover or by self to reflect with man’s best friend ? Any or all of the above is perfection….. you choose.
The lazy, hazy days of Summer are getting closer by the day. If the weather cooperates it may start this coming Memorial Day weekend; which is just in a few days. With Memorial Day approaching many have started their planting of fruits, vegetables and flowers. As we know this weekend has marked that activity in full force for many years. Supposedly, it’s safer to wait to this timeline because there if less threat of very cold weather; which would stifle the growth of them. Anyways, this planting of annuals and veggies stir so many senses. Senses, of smell, senses of sight of all the glorious shapes and colors that are brightening our environments from these botanicals. And lastly, our sense of hearing that has been awakened by the wind chimes from the Summer breezes that prevail, and the lapping sounds of water coming in from the tide. Ahhhh beautiful, beautiful Summertime fun! Enjoy!!
